I am Associate Professor of Automatica at the Department of Engineering and Architecture (DIA), University of Trieste, Italy, and co-founder of Glance Vision Technologies.
My research spans Control Theory, Machine Learning, Robotics, and Machine Vision, with a focus on intelligent, autonomous systems where these disciplines naturally converge. I am particularly drawn to the challenge of making systems operate with limited or no model knowledge — from model-free and data-driven control, to learning-based approaches for perception and decision-making. On the robotics side, I work on kinematics, visual servoing, and safe robot operation in industrial environments. My current focus is on advanced, intelligent manufacturing and contributing to human-centred, safe, and sustainable production systems, in line with the vision of Industry 5.0.
At the university I teach Control Theory and Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. If you’re a company or organisation interested in collaborating, or simply curious about what we do, feel free to get in touch — I’m always open to a conversation.
There is more to life than research and teaching, of course. I’m a proud member of postpunk/psych/dub/wave band Sanlorenzo. You can find our latest videoclip and another recent one online, along with a recorded live performance. On the funk side, I recently joined the horn section of the fabulous GangBand as tenor saxophonist.
